AppsforItaly
What is Apps4Italy

While accomplishing their institutional tasks, the Public Sector bodies constantly collect, produce and manage an enormous flow of data belonging to a broad set of fields, from geodata to business information (we also label it Public Sector Information, or PSI). The re-use of PSI, carried out by adding value and knowledge to linked datasets – even for commercial purposes – is supposed to foster the creation of innovative applications useful for citizens and firms, who can rely on new services and on support to their decision making processes, just to mention a few opportunities amongst a broad set.

Apps4Italy is a competition open to all EU citizens, associations, developer communities and firms willing to develop innovative applications based on the re-use of Public Sector Information (Open Data).

This contest represents the best way to show – once again – how wide and relevant to citizens, firms and the Public Administrations themselves is the economic and social potential of the re-use of datasets published by Public Sector bodies.

The submission of proposals is open from November 20th, 2011 to April 30th, 2012
